WAHEED MURAD
A rare trendsetter in a film industry which has traditionally looked to the Indian filmdom for inspiration.Son of a filmmaker/distributer based in Karachi, waheed Murad made his debut in the fertile year of 1962 with an audition role in Aulad. Two other stars who made their maiden appearness the same year were Muhammed Ali and his wife-to-be Zeba.
The decade of 1960s saw Waheed combine his creative talents with friends Pervez Malik (director) and Sohail Ra'ana (music composer). The outcome was memorable hits such Heera Aur Pathar and Armaan.Among his other box-office hits were Hasan Tariq's Anjuman (with Rani and Deba) and Devar Bhabi (with Santosh, Sabaha and Rani) his pairing with Zebais still considered to be among the all-time best in the history of Pakistan cinema.
Success in the role of an incorrigible and irresistable suiter of women who came his way (their quality suffering with time) created an image Waheed himself could never emerg out of, as the romance of the 60s faded in the new realities of the 70s and 80s.The influence of his earlier works, however, remained and all nonaction 'heroes' continued to be judge on the Waheed Murad scale. They still say that no one can picturise a song better then him, in an industry that draws on music for sustenance.
WASIM AKRAM
from the time of his debut in 1984-85, Wasim Akram had eaned the tad of the 'most promising young player in the world.' he lived up to that arduous notion in every way becoming pakistan's highest wicket taker and the bowler with so many deliveries in his armoury that even in the twilight of his career, he is both admired and feared for his effortless action and its lethal effects.
Wasim Akram was unique in that he was protege of both Imran Khan and Javed Miandad - two of the most influential cricters of thgeir time. Both looked to Akram for victories and both sought to mould him. Wasim bebefited from much advice and went on to be a unique cricter in his own right.
His short, eager run up, whippy left arm action and an awesome ability to bowl a wide array of cricketing deliveries has enabled Akram to stride across the cricketing stage with aplomb. Aside from the fact that he has been embroiled in unsavoury match fixing allegations by his team mates, Wasim Akram's has been a brilliant cricketing career.
